Koneko Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 August 2026
This policy explains what information the Koneko application ("the App", "we") processes and how it does so. It is written in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Spanish Organic Law on Data Protection (LOPDGDD).
Quick summary (no legal value, just to help you understand): Koneko works without requiring you to sign up. If you do not create an account, we do not store any personal data about you on our servers. We use your location, only at that moment, to show you nearby fuel stations. We show advertising, which does collect device identifiers. Your favorites and data are stored on your own phone. We collect anonymous technical data (device model, Android version, errors, and general usage) to know whether the App works well and to improve it. If you are in Europe, we ask you the first time you open the App before enabling personalized advertising and usage analytics; outside Europe they are enabled by default and you can turn them off in the settings.
1. Data controller
The data controller is:
- Controller: Javier López Lumbreras
- Contact: support@getkoneko.com
You can write to that address for any matter related to this policy or to the exercise of your rights.
2. What data we process and for what purpose
2.1. Use without an account (default mode)
Koneko can be used fully without signing up. In this mode:
- Location. The App uses your device's location (precise or approximate, depending on the permissions you grant) solely to show you the nearest fuel stations and prices. The coordinates are sent to our service to look up the stations in your area, but they are not stored and not linked to your identity. If you do not grant the location permission, you can enter the area manually.
- Data stored on your device. Your favorite stations, the discounts you configure, your vehicle data and, where applicable, your refueling history are stored locally on your phone. They are not sent to our servers as long as you do not create an account.
- Price data. Prices and station information come from official public sources (in Spain, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge). This is public, non-personal data.
2.2. Advertising
The free version of Koneko shows advertising through Google AdMob. For this purpose, AdMob may collect and process device identifiers (such as the advertising identifier), device information, and usage data, in order to serve and measure ads. This processing is carried out by Google as a third party in accordance with its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
If you are in the European Economic Area, the first time you open the App we will show you a consent dialog where you can accept or reject personalized advertising. Your answer in that same dialog also determines whether usage analytics is enabled (see section 2.5), so that you only have to decide once. Afterwards, you can change each choice separately and at any time from the App settings (Privacy and data): the advertising choice, with "Ads consent"; the analytics choice, with "Share usage data".
If you are outside the European Economic Area, this dialog is not shown and advertising may be personalized by default, in accordance with the regulations applicable in your region. You can limit it by resetting or deleting your advertising identifier in Android's privacy settings.
2.3. Maps
Koneko displays the stations on a map using the Google Maps SDK. Google may process certain data to provide this service, in accordance with its privacy policy (link above).
2.4. Use with an account (if you decide to sign up)
If in the future you create an account (an optional feature), we will additionally process:
- Your email address, to create and manage the account.
- The synchronization of your favorites, settings, and vehicle data across your devices.
- A notification identifier, if you enable price-drop alerts, so that we can send you notifications.
This data is stored securely with our infrastructure provider. Creating an account is always voluntary.
2.5. Technical data and analytics
To know whether the App works correctly and to improve it, we collect technical data anonymously and in aggregate, without linking it to your identity:
- Device information: model, Android version, language, approximate country, and screen characteristics.
- Usage data: which screens and features are used and how often, session duration, and general navigation patterns within the App.
- Errors and performance: crash or freeze reports (including the screen and the version in which they occurred) and response times.
For this we use an anonymous, random installation identifier, which does not identify you as a person and is not the advertising identifier. We do not collect your precise location for analytics purposes. We process this information in aggregate (for example, "what percentage of users on a given Android version experienced an error"), not individually.
For this we use Google Firebase (specifically Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports, Firebase Analytics for usage analytics, and Firebase Performance Monitoring for response times and performance).
These two types of data are handled differently:
- Usage analytics (which screens and features you use) is handled differently depending on where you are:
- In the European Economic Area it is only collected if you give us your consent, and it is disabled by default. Consent is collected in the dialog we show you the first time you open the App (the same one described in section 2.2): if you accept the processing of your data there, usage analytics is enabled; if you reject it, it remains disabled. You can change your choice or withdraw your consent at any time from the App settings (Privacy and data → "Share usage data").
- Outside the European Economic Area, usage analytics is enabled by default, and you can disable it at any time from that same setting.
- Error and performance reports are enabled by default because they allow us to detect and fix failures (legitimate interest), and you can object to them whenever you want from the same settings (Privacy and data → "Share crash reports").
3. Legal basis for processing
- Consent (art. 6.1.a GDPR): for access to your location and, in the EEA, for personalized advertising and usage analytics. These last two consents are collected in the dialog shown on the App's first launch, and you can change or withdraw them at any time from the settings (Privacy and data).
- Performance of a requested service (art. 6.1.b GDPR): to show you nearby fuel stations and, if you create an account, to synchronize your data.
- Legitimate interest (art. 6.1.f GDPR): for basic operation, App security, and the error and performance analytics that allow us to detect and fix failures.
For users located outside the European Economic Area, where the GDPR does not apply, personalized advertising and usage analytics operate enabled by default in accordance with the applicable local regulations, and can be disabled at any time: analytics, from the App settings (Privacy and data → "Share usage data"); personalized advertising, from Android's privacy settings (by resetting or deleting the advertising identifier).
4. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the following providers, exclusively so that the App can function:
- Google (AdMob and Maps): advertising and maps.
- Google Firebase (Crashlytics, Analytics, and Performance Monitoring): measurement of the App's usage, stability, and performance (anonymous technical data).
- Supabase (database) and Railway (API hosting): infrastructure of the service (personal data is only involved if you create an account).
- Cloudflare: content delivery network and cache in front of our API (it processes the requests, including the approximate area queried, but does not store personal data).
Each provider processes the data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
5. Data retention
- Without an account: we do not keep personal data on our servers. Local data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
- With an account: we keep your data while the account is active. If you delete it, the personal data associated with it is erased.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, as well as the right to portability and to withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise them, write to support@getkoneko.com.
You can also file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, www.aepd.es) if you believe your rights have not been respected.
If you use the App without an account, you can exercise control directly: revoke the location permission in your phone's settings, reset your advertising identifier, or delete the local data by uninstalling the App.
7. Minors
Koneko is not aimed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a minor has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. International transfers
Some of our providers (such as Google) may process data outside the EEA. In those cases, the transfers are covered by the safeguards provided for by the GDPR (such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses).
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the App or in the applicable regulations. We will publish the updated version at this same address and indicate the date of the last modification. If the changes are significant, we will notify you within the App.
